DBRS elevates career paths at the intersection of creative and business fields, helping students discover opportunities across the retail and consumer industries. Beyond professional development, we are committed to building a community that reflects the vast diversity of people and perspectives shaping the consumer landscape. We approach our work with a sense of responsibility to our communities and the environment.
Our COmmitment
our IMPACT PILLARS
-
Diversity is integral to representing the wide range of people, perspectives, and experiences that form the consumer world. DBRS aims to foster an inclusive community that reflects Duke’s diversity and creates a welcoming space for students of different backgrounds, interests, and identities. Across our membership, programming, speakers, and partnerships, we seek to broaden representation and make opportunities within retail and consumer industries more accessible.
-
Environmental sustainability is a key consideration throughout DBRS’s programming and partnerships. We encourage greater awareness of how consumer choices and business practices affect the environment, and we seek to highlight more responsible approaches to consumption.
Our annual Sustainable Thrift Pop-Up is one example of this commitment. The spring event brings together students, local vendors, and secondhand shopping to promote circular consumption and support community-based retail.
-
DBRS believes our impact should extend beyond our own organization and campus community. To do this, we aim to build meaningful relationships with local students, businesses, nonprofits, and other organizations through education and collaboration.
Our initiatives include visits to local middle and high schools to introduce students to retail and business through interactive programming, as well as partnerships and projects with Durham-area businesses and community organizations.
