ABOUT US
DIVERSIFYING SUCCESS
AT DUKE UNIVERSITY
OUR STORY
The Duke Business of Retail Society (DBRS), founded in 2024 by Sophia Yassinger and Nina Venter inspired by a shared passion to amplify representation and diversify the creative landscape at Duke University. The founding team was motivated by a desire to inspire creativity on Duke’s campus, and redefine what success can look like.
The society fills a crucial white space in Duke’s pre-professional environment by creating opportunities for students to explore creative interests and career paths within the retail and consumer goods industries. It bridges the gap between traditional business tracks and industry verticals spanning luxury fashion, beauty, wellness, technology, venture capital, and beyond. In doing so, the society provides a platform for experiential learning and professional development. Through speaker events, career talks, skill-building workshops, and intimate networking sessions, we empower members and create community of like-minded individuals.
